NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERNearly twenty years ago, Robin Hobb burst upon the fantasy scene with the first of her acclaimed Farseer novels, Assassin’s Apprentice, which introduced the characters of FitzChivalry Farseer and his uncanny friend the Fool. A watershed moment in modern fantasy, this novel—and those that followed—broke exciting new ground in a beloved genre. Together with George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb helped pave the way for such talented new voices as Scott Lynch, Brandon Sanderson, and Naomi Novik.
Over the years, Hobb’s imagination has soared throughout the mythic lands of the Six Duchies in such bestselling series as the Liveship Traders Trilogy and the Rain Wilds Chronicles. But no matter how far she roamed, her heart always remained with Fitz. And now, at last, she has come home, with an astonishing new novel that opens a dark and gripping chapter in the Farseer saga.
FitzChivalry—royal bastard and former king’s assassin—has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire.
Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past . . . and his future.
Now, to protect his new life, the former assassin must once again take up his old one. . . .
Praise for Fool’s Assassin
“Hobb knows the complicated workings of the wayward human heart, and she takes time to depict them in her tale, to tell her story sweetly, insistently, compellingly. . . . A book meant to be inhabited rather than run through.”—The Seattle Times
“[FitzChivalry Farseer is] one of the best characters in fantasy literature.”—Fantasy Book Review
“[Hobb’s] prose sparkles, her characters leap off the page.”—Tordotcom
“Modern fantasy at its irresistible best.”—The Guardian
“Fantastic . . . emotionally rich storytelling.”—Library Journal (starred review)

Entertaining, but epic
These books are entertaining, but I’m constantly forcing myself to overcome frustration at what feels like inconsistencies in character development, filler material in the form of limitless side stories, and depressed/morose internal monologues of the main character feeling sorry for himself.

Fitz with the wit is witless
Fitz can sense life in a dark room but assumes his wife is crazy and can not sense his friend? What is this? 2 critical points in the book and he is witless? - for 2 YEARS! Sorry I am very disappoint.

Wow....so how long
do we have to wait to find out what happens next? Didn't realize how much I missed this series or characters.

I am so glad to reunited with some of my favorite characters of all time! Now Robin Hobb has introduced me to some NEW BLOOD and I CAN NOT WAIT to find out what happens next!

Slow to, but it does get better
I will admit I was skeptical after the first 50 or so pages. I thought this was another Hobb disaster like the Soldier Son debacle. But it does get better. It never gets as good as the Rainwilds series, and doesn't have the interesting characters of her dragon sagas, but I did ultimately enjoy the book. I will buy the next book when it becomes available. That's about as much praise as this deserves. But I am hoping for better.

If I could give this 6 stars, I would.
For any fan of the Assassin's Apprentice series, this is a dream come true! Be ready for an emotional roller coaster that had me, literally, gripping the edge of my seat as I read.

I've read everything from Assassin's Apprentice to the Rainwilds Chronicles. This book was my favorite so far! So cleverly written and wonderfully engaging, I couldn't put it down. It was like falling in love with the Fool all over again... And Nighteyes. Exceptional. Can't wait for the next one.

Incredible Fitz Addition
There are many ways for there to have been a negative point deduction on this review due to plot pacing for Fool's Assassin. However, as a character play- as a progression therein and thereof- this is a magnificent entry in the FitzChivalry series from Robin Hobb. Assuredly, as some reviewers make note, there is a 'long' opening sequence; however, it's a labor of love: to existing fans, and likely to the characters and author who has dedicated nearly 2.5 (published) decades. With that said, I savored this entry like a rich, delicious red wine. Fitz's growth: absence, weakness. The Withywood additions, extras such as Lant and Shuns additions (certainly Shun was depicted as horrendously narcissistic), the interplay with Molly, and glorious Bee. More please! Finally as a caveat: this book favors those who've read her earlier Fitz series, so if you haven't, do yourself a favor and pick them up starting with Assassin's Apprentice!

Cover to Cover
As if any ebook has a cover ... once begun, I was unable to stop. The Fool's Assassin picks up just after the ending of the previous trilogy, adding a new generation of intrigue and mystery. I am captivated by this world of magic, but even more captivated by the use of foresight and visions to weave a complex and ironically unpredictable twists. Hobb's talent is in creating that rare pressure of storytelling, the kind that forces you to read on past fatigue, past reasonable bedtimes. Too soon, I find myself having to get ready for the day not having had nearly enough sleep because I could not resist a few more pages. And now I have gone and done it. I have finished the book all too soon and I immediately regret it. This is the kind of book that any author would be envious to have written.

Review: The Fitz and the Fool #1: Fool's Assassin
Fool's Assassin by Robin Hobb is the first book in her newest series, The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy. Taking us back into the Six Duchies and again into the life of FitzChivalry Farseer and his lifetime best friend, The Fool. Fitz is living his life out as Tom Badgerlock, the identity he created for himself decades ago. He is happily married to his childhood love, Molly, and has helped her to raise the last of her and Burrich's children tucked away at Withywoods with his step-mother Patience. A strange messenger appears one night during Winter Fest and never gets to deliver her message and simply disappears. It is strange but forgettable, until years later the import of this lost messenger is of no consequence. When the next messenger arrives things very rapidly unravel as they can only do in Fitz's life. Filled with old characters we love, and new characters I think I'm going to love to hate should they make it any further in the series, this world, these people are a welcome place to go. Fitz is like family and as much as I tried to slow down reading to make this last longer - I just HAD to know what was going on. Leaving things up in the air as only an epic-fantasy trilogy opener can do... the next anticipated book is expected out sometime in 2015 and is titled Fool's Quest. I so very highly recommend this author and her entire series of books.

Reading this book was like finally reconnecting with old dear friends. I didn't know how badly I missed these characters until now. Thank you Mrs Hobb for sharing them with us again!

Had to trudge through this one. Maybe she's setting the table for future books, but it had a hard time keeping my attention.

Awesome as usual
Robin Hobb has brought Fitz back with the most wonderful tale. I love the way the story goes back and forth between his daughter and him, helping us learn the unique relationship between them. The ending of course is a major cliffhanger. If you can't handle the suspense, you might want to wait until book two is out. I know I can't wait!

What a Fool believes
Although it deserves the fives stars; I admit I'm left a bit disappointed. When this trilogy was announced I literally marked my calendar...I was ready for three books of ALL FITZ AND THE FOOL ALL THE TIME. This book was not that. I kept anxiously looking at the page count as my time with my Fool obviously dwindled... Then when we finally get there AGAIN HOBB?!? You do it to me again?!? I haven't recovered yet from the reread of the first time you did it! It's a lovely story, and she told it so well~ I even see what she did there with Bee. But please Hobb, PLEASE for the love of Sa, he better get his happy peaceful ending with these - Fitz has had two!!!

A brilliant return
Recaptures the feeling tone and emotion of the original trilogy. Reuniting the reader with old friends and introducing new ones through a compelling tale that spins you on an emotional ride both saddening and exciting while always heartfelt. Bravo Robin Hobb and thank you for sharing more of Fitz's life with us, can't wait for the next one.

I have a massive boner about this book. I've read it. Not sure what to think. I've enjoyed revisiting old characters, but unless you're a HUGE fan of this series, you should probably skip it. It was basically 800 pages of drivel leading up to one final moment.

Fool's Assassin
Only Robin Hobb can write epic fantasy that makes me weep as much as it brings me joy; that brings me to a new yet familiar world; shows me the blackest of betrayals and the bright bonds of love. She is a SkillMaster, truly(fans will know the significance of this; those of you new to Hobb will have newly discovered the inherent compliment). This foray into a new chapter of these now familiar and well-loved characters in the Farseer saga(the entirety of all the titles are technically entitled 'The Realm of the Elderlings' and is the broken down into separately named trilogies) is wonderful. Hobb never fails to amaze! As soon as this book was released, I did practically nothing but read and drink enough coffee to keep me fueled. It was a sleepless two days from start to finish because it gripped my attention so thoroughly, and kept me wrapped up in that world. I highly recommend all of the Farseer trilogies in this continuing saga.this is actually the first time I've taken the time to write a review, partly because I'm caught up in the afterglow, but also because of the magic of her writing.

Disappointing
I have been a fan from the very beginning of this author but feel that the style and storyline in this latest book fails to interest me or excite me.
